Crescendo College offers an array of music ensembles that students can choose from for their mandatory ensemble credit as part of their program of study. These ensembles are directed and supervised by faculty members with ample experience in conducting and working with talented students (some are private instructors at the institution. Crescendo is lucky to be located in close proximity to one of the most prestigious ensembles in the world: The Chicago Symphony. Crescendo often has guest conductors, soloist, and players come to perform with many of the ensembles at our institution |
BandsThe Concert Band: This band, typically made up of 1st and 2nd years performs the finest in wind literature, emphasizing the core repertoire and contemporary publications that provide a strong basis for the music educator. This auditioned ensemble is open to all university students. The Concert Band performs in at least two concerts throughout each semester.
-Director: Joseph Baker The University Band: This band, typically made up for 2nd and 3rd years performs the finest in wind literature, emphasizing the core repertoire and contemporary publications that provide a strong basis for the music educator. Throughout each semester, the University Band performs two concerts. -Director: Michael Johnson The Wind Symphony: The Wind Symphony is the most advanced-level performing ensemble, typically composed of 4th (sometimes 5th) year students in the band area. Seating and placement are through audition. The ensemble performs contemporary and standard literature for winds and percussion. -Director: Susan Thompson |

Vocal EnsemblesThe A Cappella Choir: Members of this group study and perform the finest of sacred choral literature and secular vocal chamber music, and receive one hour of academic credit per semester.
-Director: Joseph Sullivan The Collegiate Chorale: This group is a highly select mixed choir whose members study and perform the finest of sacred choral literature and secular vocal chamber music. The ensemble consists of 30 to 40 singers, primarily upperclassmen and graduate students. -Director: Patricia Lindgren Men's Chorus: The College Men’s Chorus is an ensemble consisting of 70 to 80 men who enjoy singing and touring together. -Director: Buford Moffett Women's Chorus: Each year 70 to 80 women from around the campus come together to form the University Women’s Chorus, an ensemble specializing in the vast choral repertoire composed for treble voices. OrchestrasCrescendo Philharmonic: This ensemble is the premiere orchestral ensemble at Crescendo college, performing a variety of orchestral literature from the standard repertoire to music of today. Orchestra is composed of string instruments and our elite brass, wind, and percussionists
-Director: Albert Chavarria Crescendo Chamber Orchestra: The chamber orchestra is an audition-only ensemble comprised of members in good standing of the Philharmonic. Its purpose is to provide students with opportunities to study and learn music for smaller orchestra not normally performed by the Philharmonic. -Director: Madelene Smead |
Small EnsemblesStudents have the opportunity to work along side faculty with specializations in culture-specific ensembles while also learning about the history and culture of the instrument of the instrument group. Courses are available on demand, and can be used toward global diversity or elective credits (cannot be used for ensemble credit) Groups done in the past: -Afro Caribbean Ensemble -Steel Drum Ensemble -Hayabusa Taiko Ensemble -Kusuma Sari Gamelan |
